Former Youngstown resident to be honored at NAACP event
The honoree used to host a local TV and radio show.
LORAIN -- Rhoda Dotson Lee, formerly of Youngstown, will be the guest of honor during the fifth annual living black history dinner and dance program Saturday sponsored by the Lorain Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
A social time is planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 4720 Oberlin Ave. The theme is "United We Stand."
Lee is chairwoman of the NAACP education committee and has been involved with the organization since moving to Lorain 25 years ago. She served as chairwoman of the Legal Redress Committee and set up monthly meetings with the Lorain Police Department.
In Youngstown, Lee was active in various civic, social and political organizations. From 1975-82, she hosted a weekly television and radio show, "Rhoda Reports," on WFMJ-TV 21.
She most recently had her name inscribed on the Wall of Tolerance at the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Ala. She has an honorary doctorate from Faith College, Birmingham, Ala.

Lee has been recognized with the Meritorious Service Award from the National NAACP, United Negro College Fund, Black Nights Police Association, Community Service Awards, Freedom Inc. Award, Women of Courage Lorain Chapter Award, Council Negro Women Award, Lorain NAACP Appreciation Award, Lorain County Law Enforcement Association award and Whitney Young Junior Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
Lee has served on the Safety and Dress Code Committee for Lorain City Schools. She is a member of the Fair Housing Board in Lorain and a member of the board of trustees with Lorain County Community Action Agency.
She is a member of Greater St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church and serves as secretary of its Jack Rutledge Missionary Society.
