Donations needed for typhoon victims
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Diocese of Youngstown is requesting monetary donations to support the work of Catholic Relief Services in the Philippines. CRS, the official overseas relief and development agency of the United States Catholic Bishops, has provided emergency relief funds and mobilized its staff in the Philippines in response to Typhoon Durian, which ripped through the country Nov. 30.
Estimates are that more than 1 million people from nine cities and 13 provinces have been affected, with more than 85,000 forced to seek shelter in evacuation centers. CRS has already forwarded funds to its local partners to assist with the purchase of relief items, including food, potable water, materials for shelter and medicine.
