Youngstown Fire Chief John J. O'Neill Jr. said the department is on track in its 10-year-plan to replace equipment. At a ceremony Thursday, two pumper trucks, each worth 230,000, were commissioned at No. 1 station downtown. Clockwise, Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams used a fire hose to christen the trucks. O'Neill is framed in a window of one of the trucks, and Capt. Kevin O'Neill checked out the controls of one of the vehicles. The chief said the trucks, capable of pumping 1,250 gallons of water a minute, will be in service next week.
