Girard's Bassunbeaten at 171
GIRARD -- Girard High wrestler Gary Bass remains undefeated at 171 pounds with a record of 16-0 after Thursday's Girard Duals.
Girard, Canfield and West Branch White finished the event with 4-1 records. Girard scores were: Girard 51, Conneaut 27; Girard 46, Brookfield 33; Canfield 37, Girard 35; Girard 39, West Branch 27; and Girard 54, Cardinal 34.
Girard is 5-3 on season, with Jake Griner 14-3 at 215 pounds and Kevin Walsh 11-3 at 145 pounds.
WGH, Strutherswin Bash
BOARDMAN -- Warren Harding's boys team and Struthers High's girls team won the "Winter Recess Bash" bowling tournament at Camelot Lanes recently.
Harding rolled 1,948 in the championship round, followed by Champion (1879) and Ursuline (1853).
The Struthers girls won with 1,523. McDonald was runner-up (1499) and Champion was third (1468).
Ursuline's Chris Koneval and McDonald's Kayla Barker were individual champions with two-game set totals of 449 and 395, respectively.
The other top boys were: Matt Straniak (Harding, 442), Robert Harvischak (Campbell, 437); Ben Vitanye (Notre Dame Cathedral, 425); John Hobson (Whitehall-Yearling, 413); Nick Stubler (Mooney, 411); Jeff Sustarcic (Notre Dame Cathedral, 409) and Nick Mancini (Mooney, 409).
Behind Barker were Rachael Lepor (McDonald, 365); Kelly Carr (McDonald, 361); Melissa Wasser (McDonald, 351); Megan Graham (Whitehall-Yearling, 334); Megan Mazarek (Champion, 322); Brittany Stitt (McDonald, 318) and Bre Lachowski (Champion, 307).
The "Bash" drew 14 boys teams and seven girls teams.
Canfield High boys coach Pete Nittoli was "Bash" organizer.
Marrow to conduct'boot camp'
YOUNGSTOWN -- Former South High and semi-pro football standout Ray Marrow is conducting another athletic boot camp at the Buckeye Elks Youth Center this winter.
The boot camp starts Feb. 3 and will run every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Also at the Buckeye Elks on Saturdays starting Feb. 3, a girls basketball camp/league will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 8-14.

Grizzlies fire Fratello
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies fired coach Mike Fratello Thursday after an NBA-worst 6-24 start.
The Grizzlies' career winningest coach, Fratello had a 95-83 record and had guided Memphis to consecutive playoff appearances. Tony Barone Sr., the Grizzlies' director of player personnel, was selected to be the interim coach.
Barone was a finalist for the Youngstown State job in 1999.
Durham prosecutoris charged
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The North Carolina bar filed ethics charges Thursday against the prosecutor in the Duke lacrosse rape case, accusing him of saying misleading and inflammatory things to the media about the athletes under suspicion.
The punishment for ethics violations can range from admonishment to disbarment.
Among the four rules of professional conduct that District Attorney Mike Nifong was accused of violating was a prohibition against making comments "that have a substantial likelihood of heightening public condemnation of the accused."
Man charged in bar shooting death
CHICAGO -- A 34-year-old man was charged Thursday in the shooting death of the friend and bodyguard of Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson at a nightclub.
Michael Selvie of Chicago was charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Willie B. Posey during an early morning fight Dec. 16, state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said. Selvie is due to appear in bond court today.
Niners' Bryant pleads not guilty
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers receiver Antonio Bryant pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of reckless driving and resisting arrest after he was spotted driving more than 100 mph last month.
Police said the fifth-year pro showed signs of drunkenness and became verbally combative when they pulled over his orange Lamborghini on Highway 101 on Nov. 19. Officers said they were forced to use leather restraints to put Bryant in their car.
NFL doubleheader
NEW YORK -- For the first time, the NFL is allowing CBS and Fox to each televise two games this Sunday in many markets, meaning four games will be available to many viewers.
