New contract in Craig Beach

CRAIG BEACH — Village council called a special meeting Wednesday to discuss and approve an operations contract for the fire department.

The one-year pact for the Craig Beach Volunteer Fire Department, effective Monday, will create two accounts — one for operating expenses and the other for buying equipment and other apparatus, Mayor Larry Ellis said.

Each account will have about $18,000 for those purposes, and the money came from the passage of two 1.5-mill levies, one each in November 2004 and November 2005, Ellis said.

Funds from the levies go into one account, the mayor said.

The contract also was needed to ensure further accountability for how the money is spent and what equipment will be bought, Ellis added.

Also at the session, council approved about $25,000 for various road repairs, but no specific streets were named.
