Fireworks for First Night
YOUNGSTOWN — The First Night Youngstown fireworks show will go on.
City council met in special session today to reconsider a $5,000 allocation to the non-profit group for its New Year's Eve fireworks display and approved the request. The panel had rejected the same ordinance last week.
Members voted 6-0 in favor of the ordinance this afternoon with Councilman Michael Rapovy, D-5th, absent.
Last week, they had rejected the request 4-3 with Rapovy and Councilmen Rufus Hudson, D-2nd; Paul Pancoe, D-6th; and Mark Memmer, D-7th, opposing it.
The members indicated that the request had come late and that they wanted more information about First Night's budget.
Memmer said today that he and other council members had questions at last week's meeting but there wasn't anyone from the committee there to answer them.
First Night committee members attended today's special meeting and also provided information to council members about the event's budget.
