WARREN -- The Trumbull County Calendar of Events, which includes listings submitted by local organizations and groups, is now available free from the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau. Copies can be picked up from the tourism office, 321 Mahoning Ave. N.W., requested by e-mail at ExploreTrumbullCounty.com or by calling (330) 675-3081. The brochure will be mailed out with each visitors guide in response to visitor information requests. It will be distributed at state-operated travel information centers and will be taken to travel industry shows. In addition, an electronic version of the 2007 events was added to the bureau's Web site. For those who were unable to submit event items by the November print deadline, the tourism office will accept event information throughout the year and include listings on its Web site within 48 hours.
Seminar to detailfarmland preservation
GOSHEN -- The Mahoning Soil & amp; Water Conservation District and the Mahoning County Farm Bureau will sponsor a seminar Jan. 27 for landowners who want to learn about choices they have to help preserve their farmland. The seminar will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Goshen Township Administration Building, 14003 West South Range Road (state Route 165). The cost, which includes lunch and seminar materials, is 5 per person before Jan. 19 and 6 after Jan. 19. At the seminar, tax and other financial incentives for farm and rural land preservation will be presented. For example, by granting a conservation easement, a landowner can retain ownership of property while protecting it from development for future generations. Columbiana Countyto get new treasurer
LISBON -- A replacement for Columbiana County Treasurer Linda Bolon should be picked in early January, according to Democratic Party Chairman Dennis Johnson. Bolon will resign at midnight Dec. 31. She was elected the new state representative from the 1st District in November. Lisa Brophey, the head cashier, will be in charge of the treasurer's office during the interim. Johnson said letters will be sent to precinct committee members notifying them of the meeting that will probably be held in the second week of January. Those who want to be appointed to the vacancy will speak before the vote.
Adult day care donation
NORTH JACKSON -- Philanthropist Tony Lariccia of Boardman has made a 2,000 donation to help the Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care Center, 2675 N. Lipkey Road. The center offers a variety of services for senior citizens and adults with disabilities. A spokeswoman for the center said the donation will further the center's work.
AIDS assistance grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- Meridian Services, 527 N. Meridian Road, has been awarded a 91,000 grant to assist people living with AIDS in 100 households in Ashtabula, Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning and Trumbull counties with housing assistance. Meridian is among six nonprofit organizations in the state awarded a combined 1 million, according to state Development Director Thomas Carton. Recipients will use the funds to provide rental, mortgage and utility assistance; operate community residences; and provide case management and related services.
Contract OK'd for bridge
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County commissioners have approved a contract with BECDIR Construction Co., 15764 W. Akron-Canfield Road, Berlin Center, Ohio, for 2.7 million for the replacement of the Chestnut Street Bridge in Grove City.
Flu shots available
Flu shots are available at the following Community Health Centers through Friday: Youngstown Community Health Center, 726 Wick Ave., Youngstown; Warren West Community Health Center, 716 Tod S.W., Warren; and Good Samaritan Community Health Center, 405 S. Linden Ave., Alliance. The cost is 10 per shot; Medicare and Medicaid cards are accepted.
