Felonious assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city woman has been charged with felonious assault after police said she admitted shooting a Hubbard man in the head.
Dena Byrd, 31, of 164 New York Avenue, told police she was in her home about 6 p.m. Saturday when two armed men broke in, shouting, "Where is that Byrd man?"
Byrd told police that as the men were searching the home, she retrieved her .40-caliber pistol and fired five or six shots at the men.
Byrd told police that one man fled.
Police found the other man -- a 26-year-old who lives at 224 E. Liberty St. in Hubbard -- lying on the floor with a bullet wound to the right rear of his head. The man, whom the police would not identify, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center where he underwent surgery.
According to police reports, Byrd later told investigators an inconsistent account of her original story, which resulted in her being charged with two counts of felonious assault.
