Ursuline stays unbeaten, 55-49

CLEVELAND -- It took a while for the Ursuline High boys basketball team to find its range from the field Saturday, but when the Irish did, they posted a 55-49 win over Albert Gallatin (Pa.).
The undefeated Irish (6-0) did not make a field goal in the first period, falling behind the Colonials (5-3) 13-6 at Quicken Loans Arena.
Then D'Aundray Brown scored six of his 26 points in the second quarter as the Irish pulled within four points, 30-26, at the break.
After closing the gap to 42-40 after three quarters, the Irish won the game in the last period.
Jawaan Alston, a 6-foot-8 senior who is a Buffalo recruit, scored 12 of his 23 points in the second quarter for the Colonials, who had more field goals, 21-17.
Ursuline held the advantage at the foul line, cashing in on 16 of 22, to Gallatin's 3-for-5 effort.
Ursuline had more rebounds, 26-25, with Brown handling 13.
Kennedy Catholic 78, Linesville 31
LINESVILLE -- Marsell Holden scored 16 points, including four 3-point goals, while Kyle Randall and Ramel Hayes added 12 points apiece and Dallas Hartman 10 with 11 rebounds and Randall 11 assists to pace Kennedy Catholic (3-2) on Friday.
Evan Smith and Cory Hoschild had 13 points each for Linesville, which had a 10-7 lead after the first quarter before faltering.
GirlsUrsuline 51, St. Thomas Aquinas 36
YOUNGSTOWN -- Danielle Crafter had 10 points and six rebounds while Chase Connors contributed six points and six rebounds and Kaneesha Tensley eight points to lead Ursuline (4-3), which jumped to a 26-14 lead at halftime.
Somers Black had 10 points and eight rebounds and Christina Daniels 10 points to spark Aquinas.
South Range 48, East Palestine 30
NORTH LIMA -- Kelcie Witmer scored 14 points and Autumn Carter added 11 for South Range (5-3, 1-2 Inter-Tri-County League Tier One), which took a 30-15 halftime lead.
Jesse Gamble scored 10 points for East Palestine.
Leetonia 39, Lordstown 36
LORDSTOWN -- Gina Jones scored 17 points, including two 3-point goals, and had three assists to lead Leetonia, which managed to turn back Lordstown's rally in the last quarter.
Sarah Witcart added five rebounds for the Bears.
Lindsay Harrison had seven points and two assists to lead Lordstown (2-7), while Karly Gibbs and Brianna Blodgett added five points each and Heather Wickline five rebounds.
Hockey
GARFIELD HEIGHTS -- Zak Kovacs had a goal, Tony Carney had a goal and an assist and Connor McNamara had an assist as the Canfield High hockey team fell to Garfield Heights 6-2 in the championship game of Saturday's holiday tournament.
Kovacs had a goal and McNamara and Chad Fischer had assists in the semifinal meeting of the two teams, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
