Hilary Duff is a doll
LOS ANGELES -- Hilary Duff is the latest Hollywood star to take on 12-inch proportions as a Barbie Doll, the world's most popular fashion doll. She joins other famous (doll) faces such as Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce Knowles and Lucille Ball.
The Red Carpet Glam Hilary Duff Doll, which shows the 19-year-old's likeness in a polka-dot dress with a red satin sash, hits stores this month. Duff, a singer, actress and fashion designer best known for playing TV's "Lizzie McGuire," has also designed clothes for Barbie.
The iconic blonde doll and the young Hollywood beauty are "great role models to girls and the perfect design duo," Jamie Wood, Mattel's vice president of Barbie marketing, said in a statement.
"Not only are they two of the most stylish entertainers, actors and fashion designers, but they also show girls there are no limits to what they can do."
Kiefer the cowboy
NEW YORK -- Kiefer Sutherland is an Emmy award winner for his role as agent Jack Bauer on "24," but he also holds another prestigious title: rodeo champion.
"What I lacked as a roper and a cowboy I could make up for in horses," the 40-year-old actor says in the January/February issue of Men's Vogue magazine, on newsstands Tuesday. "Roping is one of those sports like polo where you get infinitely better the better your horses are. I had some great horses."
Sutherland, who has starred in such films as "The Sentinel" and "A Few Good Men," learned the basics of horseback riding in 1994's "The Cowboy Way." He took time off from making movies in 1998, and wound up winning the national team roping competition twice.
"Those two years on the ranch were my college years," Sutherland recalls. "Three or four guys riding around in a truck from rodeo to rodeo. It was fantastic."
The eagerly anticipated sixth season premiere of his hit Fox series, "24," airs in two-hour blocks on Jan. 14 and 15. Sutherland, who has been married twice, says it's hard to date while shooting the series.
"There are some people that are great loners, but it is certainly not how I wanted to live my life," he said. "When you have five 16-hour days back to back, though, it is tough to tell someone, 'The only way you can spend time with me is to live with me.' It's certainly a weird question to ask on a first date."
No need to be dramatic
NEW YORK -- Naomi Watts, who's tackled emotionally wrenching roles, has a love-hate relationship with the idea of starring in a romantic comedy.
"I look at those romantic comedies, and I see actors with perfect hair and six-packs, and I feel myself being numbed, and I get angry because I see so much money spent on these things," the 38-year-old actress says in an interview in Allure magazine's January issue, on newsstands Tuesday.
"I don't mean to sound righteous here," she continues. "There is need for it, because there are times when I am in a hotel room and need to be numbed. ... I keep saying to myself, Oh, God, I'm sick of playing these dark, harrowing roles. I want a big paycheck, so put me in some dumb romantic comedy any day."
Watts has starred in such films as "King Kong," "Mulholland Dr." and "The Ring." She acts opposite Edward Norton and her boyfriend, Liev Schreiber, in the romantic drama "The Painted Veil," slated for limited release on Dec. 29.
