Police arrest 2 high-speed drivers; both face multiple charges



YOUNGSTOWN -- Two drivers traveling at high rates of speed Sunday morning caught the attention of city police and resulted in arrests.
About 2:40 a.m., an officer on patrol at Mahoning Avenue and Evanston Avenue observed a vehicle speeding. The vehicle turned onto Steel Street then into a driveway in the 1600 block of Florence Avenue. Police ordered three occupants out of the vehicle and the driver, Juniel Santiago, 25, of Garland Avenue, was charged with trafficking marijuana and reckless operation. Police found 12 plastic bags of suspected marijuana in the car. Santiago was taken to Mahoning County Justice Center.
At 3:20 a.m., an officer was stopped at Market Street and Williamson Avenue when a vehicle went past at an estimated speed of 100 mph. The officer began pursuit with lights and siren and the vehicle continued northbound on Market, running red lights at Market and Front streets, Wick Avenue and Commerce Street and Wick and Wood Street at an estimated speed of 75 mph. The vehicle turned eastbound on Rayen Avenue then abruptly stopped on Oak Street, the report said. The driver exited the vehicle.
Tarah L. Desatnik, 22, of Berlin Center was charged with reckless operation, failure to comply, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. She refused a Breathalyzer test and repeatedly threatened and was abusive to officers, according to the report. She was transported to the county jail to await arraignment.
