Bomb squad called for dynamite in safe

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called to Castle Builders Supply on Moravia Street after employees found two sticks of dynamite in an old safe.
New Castle Police said the company owner John Carna found the safe when he bought the Moravia Street building in 1995, but had the safe opened by a locksmith just Wednesday.
Police said two employees were instructed to remove the dynamite sticks from the safe and put them in the outside trash container Wednesday.
The locksmith called police Thursday to report the find after thinking about its volatility, police said.
Police arrived just after 1 p.m. and called in the bomb squad for help. The dynamite was taken to a quarry in Mahoning Township, where it was detonated.
