Mercer County: Sentence Court



Judge Christopher St. John of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced seven people Tuesday. They and their sentences are:
Michael Brown, 19, formerly of Market Street, Farrell, to 191 days to 23 months in jail for misdemeanor theft. Brown and two other men snatched a purse from a woman at the Shenango Valley Mall on Jan. 9.William Crawford, 21, of North Irvine Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to two years' probation for resisting arrest and simple assault, both misdemeanors, and criminal mischief, a summary offense. In March Crawford slapped a woman. When police officers arrived, they had to use a stun gun to subdue him. The encounter took place in Sharon. Ilinda Kitt, 32, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, was placed on three years' probation for welfare fraud, a misdemeanor. For six months starting in June 2001, Kitt failed to report her earnings from a convalescent home to the Mercer County Assistance Office, and as a result was overpaid $2,532 in public assistance or federal food coupon payments. Marcie Redmond, 35, of Darr Avenue, Farrell, was placed on four years' probation for two misdemeanor counts of retail theft. Court documents state that Redmond stole $216 worth of jackets and pants April 14, 2005, from Kaufmann's at the Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage. Then on May 2, 2005, she stole $97 worth of children's clothing from J.C. Penney at the same mall. Devin Smith, 20, of Washington Street, Farrell, was placed on two years' probation for misdemeanor simple assault. On Jan. 11, Smith punched a man at a Sharon address, then held him down while other men punched and kicked him. The victim suffered fractures, cuts and bruises to his cheek, nose and eye socket and had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. Brian Songer, 23, of South Lake Road, Mercer, was placed on three years' probation for criminal conspiracy -- unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a felony. On Dec. 23, 2004, Songer conspired with a woman to sell 11.7 grams of marijuana to an informant for $90 in Sharon.Brandi Thomas, 25, of Farkas Road, West Middlesex, was placed on two years' probation for misdemeanor retail theft for stealing three cartons of cigarettes valued at $123 from Sheetz Inc., 505 E. State St., Sharon, on Jan. 29.
