Tuesday, August 29, 2006 Woman charged in brawl AUSTINTOWN — A Berlin Center woman is charged with assault stemming from a brawl at a restaurant. Leanne G. Allen, 27, was arraigned Monday in county court here on one count of assault in a Sunday episode at Davidson's Restaurant. Police were called to the restaurant about 1:27 a.m. for a large fight among several customers. According to police, Allen jumped on and beat a bartender with a shoe after he rushed in to stop the fracas. Also arrested on a charge of criminal damaging was Thomas S. Goldner, 22, of Canfield, who witnesses said broke the plate glass window at the restaurant's entrance. N. Lima plan meeting NORTH LIMA — The North Lima Neighborhood Plan Core Committee will hold a public workshop at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Beaver Township Administration Office, 11999 South Ave., to discuss development of the plan. Woman's trial set YOUNGSTOWN — Trial has been set for 9:15 a.m. Sept. 20 in municipal court for Kay Brown, 39, of South Lakeview Avenue, who is charged with violating parental responsibility. Court records show that Brown showed up late for a pretrial hearing Aug. 24, after Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. ordered that a warrant be issued for her arrest. The warrant was withdrawn. Brown, who had been scheduled to be in court at 10:15 a.m., arrived at 11:20 a.m., records show. Fire ruins vacant house YOUNGSTOWN — A vacant house at 510 Cleveland St. on the South Side was destroyed by fire. Firefighters reported a strong smell of gasoline at the rear of the structure. The owner, who had been renting the place, told firefighters that she asked the tenant to leave two weeks ago. Damage was set at $20,000. The cause of the Sunday evening fire remains under investigation. Charged in dumping YOUNGSTOWN — Mark A. Ohl, 49, of South Raccoon Road, Canfield, was arraigned Monday in municipal court on a dumping charge. He will be back in court Sept. 22 for a pretrial hearing. Police said Ohl dumped boxes of paper behind a vacant house in the 2000 block of Market Street, at the northeast corner of Glenaven Avenue, on Friday. Ohl told police that his boss, who owns the building, ordered him to place the boxes in the building because it is scheduled to be demolished. Marijuana charges YOUNGSTOWN — Two women charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana were arraigned Monday in municipal court. Shanti Efthymious, 30, and Brittany Williams, 19, both of North Medina Avenue, will be back in court Sept. 20 for a pretrial hearing. Police had initially gone to the house late Sunday afternoon because of a report of a break-in by two women. After determining that Efthymious and Williams live there and were not breaking in, officers said, they found a marijuana plant in the basement surrounded by a series of lights. Police said they also found dried marijuana on the floor. Family Dollar robbed CAMPBELL — The Family Dollar Store, 349 Robinson Road, was robbed at gunpoint. The robber was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a white T-shirt underneath that was pulled over his face. No one was injured in the robbery Sunday afternoon, police said. Work on Pa. turnpike NORTH LIMA — A single-lane pattern for westbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) near the Ohio line is scheduled to be in effect from 6 p.m. today until 3 p.m. Thursday for the movement of concrete barriers that separate lanes from work zones.
