YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating what may have been an attempted robbery at the CVS pharmacy at 1833 Oak St. Store employees said a man wearing a mask walked into the building just before 9 p.m. Tuesday and stood near the front of the store. One employee yelled to others to call 911, and all employees ran to the back of the store. Police said the masked man left the building without taking anything.
Driver pleads innocentto motorcyclist assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Roy Street man accused of ramming his car into the rear of a motorcycle on Indianola Avenue pleaded innocent Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of assault. William Toth, 35, faces a pretrial hearing at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 8 in municipal court. He was held in jail with bond set at $5,000. Police said he is accused of running his car into the back of a motorcycle driven by James Jarrell, 33, of Lowellville, around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the two men had an ongoing feud, and Jarrell recognized Toth as the driver of the car that hit him and knocked his motorcycle to the pavement. Jarrell was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Habitat plans 2 homes
WARREN -- Habitat for Humanity for Trumbull County will be breaking ground at 11 a.m. Saturday on two new homes. The work will be at 2153 and 2157 Plaza Ave. N.E. for the families of Vickie Walker and Stacy Gaugler. Walker's home will be handicapped-accessible to meet the needs of her young son. This will be the first time the Trumbull County Habitat has built two homes at once and the first time it has built a handicapped-accessible home, organizers said. The Habitat volunteers will be assisted by students from the Trumbull Career and Technical Center.
Campbell man accusedof raping woman
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- A Campbell man is accused of raping a 22-year-old woman on a dirt lane off Church Hill Road in Mahoning Township. Pennsylvania State Police said James L. Andrews, 58, of Tremble Lane, is in Lawrence County Jail with bond set at $25,000 on charges of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, criminal coercion and simple assault. Police said the 22-year-old accuser was in Lawrence County visiting friends Friday afternoon when Andrews offered to take her home. Police said Andrews is accused of driving off a dirt lane and sexually assaulting the woman. She eventually freed herself and made it back to her Ohio home, where she called police.
OSHP plans open house
LISBON -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol will have an open house at 1 p.m. Friday at its new Lisbon post at 9423 state Route 45. The new building with up-to-date equipment was built on the site of the old post. Attending the open house will be Kenneth L. Morckel, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety; Col. Paul D. McClellan, superintendent of the state highway patrol; Capt. James J. Holt, commander of the patrol's Warren district; and Lt. William G. Thompson, commander of the Lisbon post.
Champion Band Night
CHAMPION -- Champion Band Night is at 7:30 today at the high school football field, 5976 Mahoning Ave. N.W. The bands performing are: LaBrae, Burton Bershire, Brookfield, Hubbard, Warren G. Harding and the host, Champion High School Marching Thunder. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
Road to be repavedin East Palestine
EAST PALESTINE -- Resurfacing work is scheduled to begin next week on state Route 165 in Columbiana County. Almost two miles of the road will be resurfaced in the city from just north of Wallace Avenue to just east of Pleasant Road. Preliminary work will begin Monday. Grinding and paving will not take place until after Labor Day to avoid traffic disruptions during the holiday weekend. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers during the work. Shelly & amp; Sands Inc., from Zanesville, Ohio, is the contractor for the $646,623 project. The completion date is Oct. 31.
