Part of Route 170 to close for work

CALCUTTA -- The Ohio Department of Transportation says state Route 170 southbound will be closed Monday from Sprucevale Road to Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road in Calcutta to allow for widening work.
The project is part of the $2.4 million intersection improvement project by the Columbiana County engineer's office.
Northbound traffic on Route 170 will be maintained, but southbound traffic will be detoured west onto Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road, south onto Sprucevale Road and back to Route 170.
Northbound traffic will not be permitted on Sprucevale Road between Route 170 and Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road.
The county engineer's office is asking that pupils use school buses as much as possible to reduce the amount of car traffic in and out of the Calcutta Elementary School parking lot. Parents that drop off or pick up their children from the school must use the north driveway as the entrance and the south driveway as the exit.
In addition, no pedestrians will be allowed to cross Sprucevale Road or Route 170 during the work.
The widening of Route 170 between Sprucevale Road and Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road is expected to take about 10 weeks. The completion date for the entire project is April 2007.
