Driver going to prison for cyclist's death

Tuesday, August 22, 2006 YOUNGSTOWN — A man charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of a motorcyclist has been sentenced to six years in the Lorain Correctional Institution. Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge James C. Evans imposed the sentence on Frank Bell, 25, of Willis Avenue, in the June 1, 2005, death of Oliver Danko, 67, of North Hartford Avenue, from injuries suffered in an accident at Market Street and Hylda Avenue. The judge also imposed a five-year sentence to run at the same time on a charge of failure to stop after an accident, fined him $25,000, suspended his driver's license for 10 years and put him on three years post-release probation. Bell had pleaded guilty to both charges June 14. Police said they caught Bell in a foot pursuit after the accident. After being hit by Bell's car, Danko's motorcycle hit a street sign pole. Danko, who wasn't wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury. Bell will get credit for the 437 days he has already been jailed.
