Cash needed for band instruments

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Warren Junior Military Band will be forced to hold a fund-raising event to partially pay for 20 stolen instruments.
Judith Wright, a member of the band's board of trustees, said Tuesday that it's uncertain if the instruments were stolen at one time, or over a period of time.
The instruments included nine trumpets and one of every other type of instrument. The 60 to 80 instruments used by the band are owned by the organization.
Wright explained that the equipment is insured, but money is needed to pay for the insurance deductible.
No fundraising event has yet been announced.
Wright said she received a call from ADT Security Services Inc. that there was motion at the group's Aristocrats Banquet Hall, 571 Francisca Ave., around 1:30 a.m. July 22.
Police had secured the open door and were gone by the time she arrived. Police suggested an inventory be conducted to determine if anything was missing. That's when loss was discovered.
The hall is used for bingo events and a door is sometimes left open by mistake, she said.
The band has a large number of instruments because they are used in an outreach program when area school students can't afford their own equipment.
