Monday, August 21, 2006 Rollover fatality SALINEVILLE — A 22-year-old Salineville man died Sunday when his car rolled over on Yellow Creek Church Road in Franklin Township. The Ohio Highway State Patrol said Matthew R. Puckett, of Spartan Road, was driving west about 2 a.m. Sunday, just east of Summitville, when he lost control of the car. The car went off the north side of the road, got back on the road, and went off the south side. The car then hit an embankment and rolled over, according to the OSHP. Michael L. Mercer, 18, of Foundry Hill Road, Salineville, a passenger, and Puckett were ejected from the car. Neither was wearing a seat belt, the OSHP said. Mercer sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Salem Community Hospital. He was then transferred to a hospital in Akron. His condition wasn't available Sunday. The accident is under investigation. Group to build 2 homes HOWLAND — Habitat for Humanity will break ground at 11 a.m. Saturday to construct two houses on Plaza Street behind the Elm Road Plaza. Jean Kiepper, secretary for the Trumbull County agency, said this is the first time two houses will be built simultaneously by the group. The Vicky Walker home will be the 28th Habitat house in the county at 2153 Plaza, and the home for Stacey Gaugaler at 2157 Plaza will the be 29th since 1976. Walker is the mother of three, including 5-year-old Daniel Walker, who suffers from a decompressed brain stem, causing him to use a walker. The Walker home will be handicapped accessible. Gaugaler is the mother of two daughters. Car cruise-in planned AUSTINTOWN — Cruise-in '06 featuring cars, trucks and motorcycles is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Highway Tabernacle Church, corner of Kirk and Raccoon Roads. Entry fee is $5 and a free dash plaque will go to the first 100 entries. There also will be a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the Royal Rangers Scouting Program. People can bring items from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 to the Columbiana County Highway Garage, 315 S. Market St. Oil-based paints, varnishes, shellacs, polyurethanes, cleaners, antifreeze, roofing tars and driveway sealers, and propane cylinders will be accepted. Car batteries, oil and industrial waste will not be accepted. There are commercial outlets for those items, according to Columbiana County Commissioner Sean Logan. There has been no household collection for several years in the Carroll, Columbiana and Harrison Solid Waste District, Logan said. Each county will now have a collection every three years.
