HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY Inez N. Creager
Born: Aug. 5, 1906, in Goshen, Ind., a daughter of Sephran and Rosetta Paff. Family: Since 1985 she has lived in Boca Raton, Fla., with a daughter, Carolyn J. Creager. Her son, Charles Q. Creager, lives in Canfield. She also has three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Schooling: Received the first diploma given at the then-new Goshen High School. She worked in a five and dime store to earn money to attend Defiance College, where majored in Christian education and graduated in 1929. Married: On June 30, 1930, she married John W. Creager, whom she met at college; he is deceased. They lived in Youngstown, where he was librarian at South High School and Girard Public Library, until 1950, when they bought six acres in Canfield Township and built a Cape Cod-style house. Church affiliation: She was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and church mother at First Baptist Temple of Youngsown, which later became Western Reserve Baptist Church. Employment: When her children were grown, she began a career as a librarian, working in the historic library building that is now at Canfield Fairgrounds Pioneer Village. In her 80s she worked at the St. Andrew's School Library in Boca Raton as a volunteer. Activities: Hiked with her husband and camped out in tents throughout 46 states before campgrounds existed. Celebrations: Received a special citation from Gov. Robert Taft. She also marked the occasion in July in Florida with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the celebration is being continued in August with her son and daughter in Florida.
