Springfield unbeaten in ICL



The Tigers rolled to their ninth straight league win, 12-1 over Sebring.
SEBRING -- Senior Ashley Fagnano went 4-for-5 and knocked in two runs, while senior Krista Snyder (10-1) had 10 strikeouts in a six-inning five-hitter to lead the Springfield High softball team to a 12-1 victory over Sebring in an Inter-County League game on Friday.
The win was the sixth in a row for Snyder. Senior Courtney Sheely went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, senior Samantha Cavalier had a double and two RBIs, freshman Rebecca Evan had two doubles and an RBI and senior Trisha Ott had an RBI double for Springfield (11-6, 9-0 ICL).
Chantel Fox had two singles for Sebring.
Western Reserve 11, South Range 1
NORTH LIMA -- Junior shortstop McKenzie Mowery went 5-for-5 to lead Western Reserve. Mowery also doubled and drove in three for the Blue Devils (13-4, 9-2).
Stevie Banks (9-2) and Elizabeth Stock combined on a two-hitter. Each struck out six.
Srock tripled and Olivia Myers had two hits and two RBIs.
The Raiders are 3-12-1, 3-8.
Jackson-Milton 1,McDonald 0 (9 inn.)
McDONALD -- Krista Kiraly pitched a three-hitter and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to lead Jackson-Milton.
In the top of the ninth, Kiraly doubled and moved to third on a groundout before Kara Conrad's groundout to second scored Kiraly.
Kiraly also had a single. On the mound, she registered six strikeouts and issued no walks.
Jessica Balent and Dez Cavanaugh had the only other hits for J-M (11-10, 5-6 ICL).
Losing pitcher Lauren Walls (5-6) had nine strikeouts and walked two.
Sara Sylvester's double and singles by Tomisa Sangregorio and Kelly Rutushin were the only hits for McDonald (9-7, 4-6 ICL).
In the bottom of the ninth, McDonald put a runner on first base, but three putouts ended the Blue Devils' chances.
McDonald tried to score in the sixth inning, but had a runner thrown out at the plate.
Mineral Ridge 8, Lowellville 2
LOWELLVILLE-- Freshman Brooke Brdek struck out 13 and walked five in throwing a three-hitter.
Junior Heather Reinhart had four hits, Brdek three and Melanie Sparks, a junior, two hits for Ridge (6-11, 6-5 ICL).
Cori Smith, Kristen Pallozzi, Jacque Schrader had Lowellville's hits.
Ridge also beat the Rockets several weeks ago, 6-3.
Boardman 7, United 5
BOARDMAN -- Addie Carothers had two doubles, two singles and one RBI to lead Boardman (3-10), while Kelsey Ford and sixth-inning reliever Nicole Williams combined to pitch a seven-hitter.
Nicole Williams added a double, a single and two RBIs while Mallory Hay had double, single and one RBI and Makala Gasparek two singles and one RBI.
Brooke McCartney had a double, a single and an RBI for United (11-7).
Canfield 20, Campbell 0
CANFIELD -- Lauren Sulick pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk and was backed by 21 hits to lead Canfield. Sulick (6-0) earned her second no-hitter of the season.
Mandy Moliterno slammed a two-run homer and a two-run single to power the offense, while Dana Elias had three singles and one RBI for Canfield (11-1, 5-0 MAC).
Poland 15, Struthers 7
POLAND -- Ashley Conger hit a double, three singles, drove in six runs and scored twice for the Bulldogs (11-3, 4-1) in the Metro Athletic Conference contest.
The Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning as they scored seven runs, getting a pair of singles by Emman Brencel, who scored once and drove in a run.
Jenna Susany homered, doubled, singled, drove in four runs and scored twice. Amanda Gittings hit a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored once. Allie Patton and Kari Thompson hit a pair of singles apiece.
Pam Shanovsky hit a double, a single and drove in three runs for Struthers and Jeannette McLaughlin hit a home run.
Niles 6, Salem 1
SALEM -- Chelsea Boyles threw 12 strikeouts and didn't walk a batter in pitching a three-hitter.
At the plate, Boyles had three singles for Niles.
Of Salem's four errors, two came in a three-run third inning when the Quakers also allowed three walks.
Junior Abby Seguin had a double while sophomores Mikenzie Clark and Jess Matthews singled for Salem (6-8, 3-5 MAC).
Salem beat Niles earlier this season, 9-4.
Howland 20, East Liverpool 1
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Sixteen players batted for the Tigers (17-2, 7-1 MAC) in the 11-run fourth inning, with Desiree Sibera hitting a double and a single and driving in a run.
Gia Pahoulis hit two singles, drove in a run and scored once.
Winning pitcher Casey Haering (3-0), a freshman, hit two singles, drove in five runs, scored three times and stole a base. Pahoulis finished with four singles, four RBIs and a stolen base.
East Liverpool slipped to 2-10, 0-6.
West Branch 11, Alliance 3
BELOIT -- Allison Edie, Lyndsey Todor and Melissa Solomon each had two hits and Todor (5-13) picked up the win for the Warriors (6-13, 1-9) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Felicia Jones had three hits, including a double and a triple, for the Aviators.
Mathews 14, Bloomfield 4
VIENNA -- Rachel Woolf collected two doubles and a single in an 18-hit attack for the Mustangs (15-3, 9-1).
The Cardinals (1-13) fell behind 6-0 in the first inning and never recovered.
Late ThursdayCanfield 8, Niles 1
CANFIELD -- Tricia Bettura and fifth-inning reliever Lauren Sulick combined to pitch a one-hitter with six strikeouts for Canfield in a MAC game Thursday.
Bettura (4-1) and Sulick each had three strikeouts.
Lauren McGivern had a two-run homer, triple, two singles and four RBIs to lead Canfield.
