"Saturday Night Live" (11:30 p.m., NBC): Here's a rare good reason to stay up for "Saturday Night Live": its first-ever compilation of "TV Funhouse," the recurring comedic shorts by Robert Smigel that have been featured on "SNL" since 1996. The program will be hosted by the animated "Ambiguously Gay Duo," Ace and Gary (voiced, as usual, by Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell), with new material by those subtly homoerotic superheroes performing an "SNL" monologue as well as interacting "live" with the current cast. The special will showcase "Funhouse" segments including "The X-Presidents" and "Fun with Real Audio," as well as holiday classics such as 2005's "Christmastime for the Jews" and the post-9/11 "Narrator That Ruined Christmas."
"A Place in the Sun" (8 p.m., TCM): The 1951 big-screen classic "A Place in the Sun" captured six Oscars, including one for George Stevens, its director. Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelley Winters star in this tale about an ambitious young man who wins an alluring heiress' heart but has to cope with his former girlfriend's pregnancy.
"Dream Home Giveaway" (8 p.m., HGTV): Somebody's getting a new home in this live broadcast.
