Poland downs Stow, 8-3



Salem, West Branch and Mooney split a doubleheaders.
STRUTHERS -- Matt Pitzulo triple and doubled to bring home three runs as the Poland High baseball team defeated state-ranked Stow, 8-3, Saturday at Cene Park.
Jim Pasquine and Mark Turnbull each had two hits for the Bulldogs (14-3). Lou Coppola (4-1) scattered six hits to pick up the pitching win.
Brandon Parsons and Tim Petty doubled for Stow (14-3).
Salem 11-0, West Branch 0-5
SALEM -- In the Quakers' win, Bryan Wright and Tim Colian doubled while Josh Dankovich tossed a three-hitter. Salem is 10-10.
In the Warriors' win, Adam Dunlap tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out five batters for West Branch (14-6). Evan Campbell had two hits and scored twice.
Mooney 12-1, Norton 5-10
STRUTHERS -- In Mooney's win, Dan Gallagher hit three doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Pat Kohowski had three hits and scored two runs. Tony Brunetti's two hits drove in two runs. Dan McCloud and Scott Smith each had two hits.
For the Panthers, Kale Jackson and Nathan Hornaceck each had two hits.
In Norton's win, Mike Sulicks tripled and doubled for the winners (12-6).
Kohowski doubled for the Cardinals (11-12).
Warren JFK 10-6, Liberty 3-5
WARREN -- Scott Difford had three hits and two RBIs to lead JFK in the first game. Josh Swipas had two hits and four RBIs and Brian Mulvey had two hits.
In the second game, Marc Rossi drove in John Baker for the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning and Swipas drove in Rossi for the win.
Rossi had four hits, Swipas and Tim McBride had two and Nick Aulet had two hits and three RBIs for the Eagles (12-6). Josh Cooper had 10 strikeouts in six innings of scoreless relief.
Cory Treharn had three hits and Cal Hoff had two for Liberty (3-11).
Springfield 7-7, Crestview 1-8
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- In the Tigers' win, Chris Martin had three hits and two RBIs while Dane Dobson had a two-run single.
For the Rebels, Jordan Reynolds, Greg Brown and Eric Whittenberger each had two hits.
In the Rebels' win, Corey Hill had two doubles and two RBIs. Craig Schmidt and Andy Walton each had two hits, with Schmidt sending home two RBIs.
For the Tigers (15-5), Martin had three hits and scored three runs. The Tigers had the bases loaded when the final out was retired.
Newton Falls 5-3, Southeast 2-5
NEWTON FALLS -- Kyle McCartney had two hits for the Tigers (10-12).
Joe Knopick and Jon Braham each had RBI singles for the Pirates (6-13).
In the Pirates' win, Marcus Watson doubled while Knapick, Brent Ford and Andy Hartman each had RBI singled.
Struthers 7, Girard 5
STRUTHERS -- Chris Kadvan (2-4) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to pick up the win for the Wildcats.
Zack Jones hit a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored once for Struthers. Ryan Jones hit a two-run single in the sixth inning and Jerry Beeson hit two sacrifies flies to drive in two runs.
Brookfield 12, Liberty 4
LIBERTY -- Mike Stanish homered and drove in two runs and Adam Hall also homered for Brookfield in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game Friday. Mark Wooten doubled twice for Liberty.
