90th Anniversary
Laird Avenue Elementary prepares to celebrate its 90th birthday this week. About the observance:
Theme: "We've been reading across the decades at Laird."
ANNIVERSARY EVENTS:
Thursday: Public open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., featuring speakers, a Power Point presentation of old pictures, tours of the building and students' work displayed in the gym.
Friday: A 2 p.m. program for students, with a flag ceremony, students singing patriotic songs and favorite songs sung at Laird during the decades, a student presentation on the school's history and speeches by schools Superintendent Kathryn Hellweg, Mayor Michael O'Brien and retired teachers Lilly Johnson and Sally Grant.
