Judge Rice to be keynote speaker at Law Day



HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Mercer County Bar Association's annual Law Day ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Albert E. Acker Memorial Gazebo in Buhl Farm.
Keynote speaker is Judge Cynthia Rice of the Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals in Warren. The public is invited.
Judge Rice received a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 1980 and her law degree from the University of Akron School of Law in 1985.
Her early career includes years in the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, where she served as chief counsel of the drug prosecution unit, criminal administrator, special assistant United States attorney, chief counsel of a unit of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and first assistant in the criminal division.
In 1999, she was appointed assistant U.S. attorney of the general crimes division with the department of justice, and was responsible for prosecuting criminal cases including drug trafficking, drug possession, bank robbery, weapons violations and other federal violations.
Judge Rice was elected to her position on the 11th District Court of Appeals in November 2002, which covers cases from Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Portage and Trumbull counties in Ohio.
She has been married since 1987 to Judge Ron Rice of Trumbull County Area Court in Brookfield and has three children.
