Farrell park to be dedicated to Friedrich
FARRELL, Pa. -- A dedication for a memorial park honoring the late Bill Friedrich, former executive vice president of Primary Health Network, will be at noon Tuesday.
The park is adjacent to the PHN facility at 350 Sharon-New Castle Road on five acres the company owns.
Plans for the park were well under way when Friedrich died last October, and the decision to dedicate the park to him was made after his passing. The dedication will be on what would have been Friedrich's 50th birthday.
The park will include a gazebo and a paved walking path. The PHN Charitable Foundation has been conducting a fund-raising campaign to build the park and plans to add exercise stations along the walkway as contributions permit.
Mary Lynn Reid, PHN Charitable Foundation associate director, said they have raised about $25,545 of the estimated $160,000 needed to complete the project.
Reid said the city of Farrell has requested $10,000 for the project in its Community Development Block Grant application and there was a $5,000 donation from UPMC Horizon Foundation. Numerous smaller donations were made for benches, trees and engraved bricks.
