Coach Bob Dove was the consummate American -- successful at every level -- high school, college, Marine Corps, pro football (player and coach), and most importantly, in life as a human being.
I was privileged to know 'The Dover' for 32 years. We were both combat marines and we would regale each other with stories. His were better because the Marine Corps was tougher when he was in World War II.
He was a sweatshirt/sweatpants type of football coach in contrast to today's Madison Avenue looking clones.
His players and friends knew they could always count on 'Dover' being there for them, regardless of the circumstances or perils.
He didn't delegate responsibility. He voraciously accepted and welcomed it.
Coach Dove was a man's man. Anyone who has spent time in a locker room or on a playing field is cognizant of what that connotes.
Best wishes to his family and friends and pleas take solace in knowing that 'The Dover' made a positive impact and difference in the lives of many and in the world.
I am a better man for having known him. Thing your for everything, coach.
