Poland meet has 53 teams entered

Saturday's event has some of the state's and area's best athletes competing.
POLAND -- John Jeren, the meet director for Saturday's Poland High Invitational track and field meet, says the 11th edition should be one of the best.
He's lined up athletes from 53 schools to compete in the event, including defending champions Canton GlenOak (boys) and Hudson (girls).
The area's top girl sprinters will be matched up with some of the state's best.
Breanne Romeo and Corey Carter of Boardman, Latalia Jones and Antoniette Smith of Chaney and Audra Frimpong of Canfield competed against each other at last week's Mahoning County meet.
They will have the opportunity to see what they need to accomplish over the next two weeks to have a chance at earning berths for the state meet in Columbus in June.
Boardman (girls), Canfield, Chaney, Campbell, Fitch, Girard, Hubbard, Jackson-Milton, LaBrae, Lakeview, Liberty, Maplewood, Salem, Struthers (girls), Warren Harding and Warren JFK are the area schools entered.
Jay Provitt and Christopher Rucker of Warren Harding, Larry Wylie and Justin Penson of Struthers, Fitzgerald Edwards of Liberty and Angelo Babbaro of Canfield will be the area athletes featured in the boys sprints.
Salem's Tyler Pierce has one of the state's top efforts this season in the high jump while Fitch's Sam Cassano will be featured in the discus throw.
"Every event will have outstanding athletes entered," Jeren said.
Emily Infield of Cleveland Heights Beaumont will be tough to beat in the 1600-meter run (5 minutes, 3.1 seconds) and 800 (2:15.5).
The meet gets under way at 9:15 a.m. with the girls 3200 final. Preliminaries will follow.
At 10:30 a.m., the boys 3200 final will be run. The rest of the running finals are scheduled at noon.
Six schools entered
BELOIT -- After being idle last year because of date conflicts, the West Branch Warrior Invitational is scheduled Saturday at Clinton Heacock Stadium. Hubbard, Southeast, Alliance, Howland, Beaver Local and West Branch boys and girls are entered with preliminaries set for 10 a.m.
11 schools to compete
LOWELLVILLE -- Bob Ballone, track coach at Lowellville, says today's Rocket Invitational will have 11 teams.
"Last year, we started the meet with five teams, but we'll have a stronger field this time," Ballone said.
One of those teams is the Struthers boys, which features the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays and Eric Anderson in both hurdles.
Other schools entered are Columbiana, Leetonia, Lordstown, Lowellville, Mathews, McDonald, Newton Falls, Rayen, Springfield and Wellsville. Field events are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with running finals at 5:30.
