Grischow and Martino lead Struthers
Lowellville's Carla Blinsky set a school record for strikeouts.
STRUTHERS -- Annie Grischow's bases-loaded single and Dom Martino's bases-loaded double Thursday powered the Struthers High softball team to a 12-2 decision over Salem.
Martino's RBI single in the sixth inning ended the game for the Wildcats (9-5, 5-3 Metro Athletic Conference).
Pam Sajnovsky had two hits for Struthers while winning pitcher Brittany Bovo improved to 7-1, 5-1 by tossing a two-hitter. She struck out seven Quakers and walked one.
Ali Calvin had both Salem hits.
Howland 23, East Liverpool 0
HOWLAND -- Freshman Casey Haering (2-0) struck out nine of the 15 batters she faced in a five-inning no-hitter.
Four of the other six batters Haering faced hit grounders back to the mound where Haering caught the ball before making the throw to first base for an assist.
Remaining batsmen flied out to center field and grounded to first base.
Offensively, sophomore Jackie Hill had two doubles and five hits total while Desiree Sibera, Erin Gilmour and Rachel Albani each added three hits for Howland (16-2, 6-1 MAC).
Fitch 3, Perry 1
AUSTINTOWN -- Staci Balkan's two-run double was the difference for the Falcons (7-10, 1-6 Federal League).
Winning pitcher Kara Warren scattered six hits. Sam Kozbial had the other RBI for Fitch as Maddie McHenry scored two runs and Katie O'Loughlin the other.
Mooney 8, East Palestine 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Kelcie Herberger (6-0) scattered four hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win for the Cardinals.
DiAndra Dibacco hit a double and triple, scored twice and drove in a run for the Cardinals (15-5).
Lowellville 6, Chaney 5
YOUNGSTOWN -- Carla Blinsky (8-6) of Lowellville pitched a three-hitter and set a school record with 15 strikeouts to pick up the win. She broke her old record of 12 strikeouts set last year.
She also hit a two-run home run in the first inning and also doubled for the Rockets (9-6). Kristen Pallozzi hit a pair of singles and drove in a run.
Mary Whieland had a two-run double and three RBIs for Chaney (3-8). Terra Koontz pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts to take the loss.
Mineral Ridge 6, McDonald 1
McDONALD -- Freshman Brooke Brdek pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks while Heather Buckner had four singles for two RBIs for the Rams (5-11, 5-5 Inter-County League).
January Golden added three singles, Melanie Sparks and Heather Reinhart had two singles apiece and Ashley Puntel had one single for the winners.
Reinhart finished with two RBIs, while Golden, a junior, also had four stolen bases.
For McDonald, Lauren Walls had two hits, while Kayla Puntel and Kelly Rutushin had the only other hits for the Blue Devils.
Sebring 9, South Range 4
SEBRING -- The Trojans (7-7, 3-6 ICL) pulled away from a 2-2 tie as it scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Jordan Henderson and Katie Wilson each hit a double and single while Kayla Faudree a double and triple for the Trojans.
Megan Beachley hit a double and single while Heather Stacy a pair of singles for the Raiders (3-11-1, 3-7).
Lisbon 11, Springfield 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Ashley Clapper pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts for Lisbon.
Erica Snoddy had a double and two singles and Erica Simms two singles to lead Lisbon while Amanda McCarty had a triple and single. Rachel Wycoff had two singles.
For Springfield (10-6), Breanne Mincher had two singles.
Southern 6, Wellsville 4
WELLSVILLE -- Hannah Crews pitched a six-hitter and also added two hits and an RBI to lead Southern.
Crews had 14 strikeouts while Chelsee Anderson and Nicole Beadnell had two hits apiece.
Erin Mick had a triple and single for Wellsville.
Liberty 10, Girard 0
LIBERTY -- Freshman Kacey Kurtz scattered five hits and struck out four to pick up the win in the Trumbull Athletic Conference. She also hit a pair of singles, drove in a run and scored once.
Michelle Dykes of Liberty (3-7, 3-6) hit a pair of single, stole four bases, drove in a run and scored once. Sarah Stofko hit three singles, drove in a run and scored once.
The Indians slipped to 3-14 and 1-8.
Louisville 10, West Branch 0
LOUISVILLE -- Winning pitcher Lindsey Hostetter scattered seven hits in the five-inning game for Louisville (12-6, 7-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Bri Benedict had two hits for the Warriors (5-13, 0-9).
Southeast 6, Coventry 2
COVENTRY -- Meagan Wain's three-run homer in the first inning and four RBIs paced the Pirates (6-9, 4-4).
