Tours of courthouse planned for pupils



Essay contest winners will be honored at a luncheon.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Bar Association members will observe Law Week by interacting with local pupils in classrooms and at the county courthouse.
Law Week, which begins Monday, celebrates the importance of law to American society.
Middle school pupils from public and parochial schools in Boardman, Youngstown, Poland, Austintown, Campbell and Struthers will take courthouse tours throughout the week, while attorneys will speak to various high school and middle school classes.
Attorneys and judges will be hosts to high school seniors during the morning of May 4. A panel discussion on "The Path to Your Career" will be at 10 that morning in the courtroom of Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Common Pleas Court. Panelists will be Judge Krichbaum; Judge Mary DeGenaro of 7th District Court of Appeals; Judge John M. Durkin of Common Pleas Court; Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court; Atty. Robert Bush of the county Prosecutor's Office; Robert Regula, common pleas court administrator; and Robert Jackson, common pleas court jury commissioner.
Atty. Larry D. Wilkes, bar association president, will be the speaker at the annual Law Day luncheon at noon May 4 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel. Essay contest winners will be honored at the luncheon. They are as follows:
First place: Laura Celidonio, senior, Austintown Fitch High School; $500 prize.
Second place: Denna Bullen, senior, Springfield Local; $400 prize.
Third place: Samantha Cavalier, senior, Springfield Local; $300 prize.
Fourth place: Brian Ramunno, senior, Austintown Fitch; $200 prize.
Fifth place: Rachel McGowan, senior, Canfield, and Michael Ciccone, junior, Western Reserve; $100 prize each (tie).
