Springfield's Houser has three-hitter in 8-1 victory
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Senior John Houser pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 as Springfield High defeated Lowellville, 8-1, in an Inter-County League baseball game Wednesday.
Houser issued just one walk for the Tigers (13-3, 8-1 ICL).
Andy Richey had two singles for two RBIs, while Dane Dobson and Mike Kampfer added a single apiece for Springfield.
Springfield has a two-game lead over McDonald in the ICL, a team with which it split.
Vince Travaline's solo home run in the sixth accounted for the lone run for Lowellville, which was hurt by five errors.

NORTH JACKSON -- Matt Pirko tossed a complete-game three-hitter and struck out 11 for the Bluejays (5-8).
Matt Shields led Jackson-Milton with a double and single, while Nick Serb singled three times. Mike Nagy also doubled for the Bluejays.
Sebring 11, South Range 4
NORTH LIMA -- Steven Rastetter slammed two doubles and two singles and drove in four runs to spark Sebring (5-9, 3-4 ICL).
Aaron Burd had three singles and three RBIs and pitcher Matt Kerns two singles.
Kerns pitched a 10-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks to get his first mound win of the season.
Crestview 3, Leetonia 1
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Crestview scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to boost its lead to 3-0, then withstood Leetonia's bases-loaded rally in the top of the seventh in a Tri-County League game.
Cory Hill scored on passed ball and Adam Thompson came home on a fielder's choice to account for the two runs that ultimately provided the winning margin for Crestview (10-4, 5-4).
Columbiana 12, East Palestine 1
EAST PALESTINE -- Bill Sattler pitched a four-hitter for Columbiana in a Tri-County League game.
Pat Sposato had a double, single and two RBIs while Billy Couchenor two singles and one RBI to lead Columbiana.
Chris Linert's single drove in the lone run for East Palestine (13-4, 6-3 TCL).
West Branch 5, Carrollton 1
BELOIT -- Willy Graham pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks for West Branch in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Josh Winans had a double, single and two RBIs while Evan Campbell and a double and one RBI to key the Warriors (12-4, 5-5 NBC).
Coventry 5, Southeast 2
AKRON -- Coventry scored two runs in the second and third innings and held ,Southeast to only two hits. Coventry had only three hits.
Marcus Watson had two singles and two RBIs for Southeast (5-11, 4-4 Portage Trail Conference).
