Mr. Employer: Americans will work, if you pay them
Mr. Employer: Americans will work, if you pay them
EDITOR:
Having spent the last several weeks hearing on the radio, and reading in the newspapers, from employers that hire immigrants -- legal and illegal -- because they work so much harder than Americans, I'd like a moment for rebuttal.. What's the line they like to use? Ah, yes, "they do the work Americans won't do." And every time I read that statement I always feel the employer hasn't finished the sentence. So let me do it for him: "I hire immigrants to do the work Americans won't do at the wages I want to pay."
So, let me say that here is an American who works hard at any job I'm hired for and agree to do. I'll give you 110 percent effort every day. You want a dishwasher extraordinaire? My price is $17 an hour, with benefits. How about a landscaper? I can run a backhoe, skid loader, and can even handle a shovel. My price $19 an hour, with benefits. Roofer? I can do this blindfolded. $20 an hour, with benefits. Truck driver? Straight truck or semi? Got that covered too. $22 an hour, with benefits.
So American employer, here's your chance to hire another hard working American. But are you going to hire me? Not a chance because I want paid an honest wage for an honest day's labor. So go hire your cheap labor and tell the world we Americans are lazy and won't work ... for the wages you want to pay.

Say 'yes' to Warren library
EDITOR:
Living across the street from the library, I can tell you first-hand what a great neighbor they are and why I visit them as often as I can, aside from the nice walk. Why don't you stop in and see for yourself what I mean? If you don't have your own computer and Internet service, use theirs, free of charge. Pick up a movie video and skip the rental fee. Read the newspaper or your favorite magazine while you're there and check out a music tape or CD to listen to on your way home, not to mention books on your favorite subject. Bring home an assortment of children's books for the kids at home.
You can also call to start home delivery if you are homebound or reside in a nursing home. The helpful library staff will help you select materials.
A "yes" vote for the May levy will preserve these services. The library has been losing its funding and faces more losses in the next two years. You may find a couple trips to the library will pay for your "yes" vote.
To check how much you would pay, take out your last real estate bill. If your total assessed value is $50,000 your "yes" vote will result in $9.19 per year. My assessed total happens to be $21,910, so it will cost me less than $5, and I paid $50,000 for my house 14 years ago.
Please, if you can afford to, give the library a "yes" vote May 2 and stop in often to visit.

Whose country is this?
EDITOR:
More and more I see my country and government going down the tubes. The apathetic attitude of its citizens is utterly sickening, to the very core of my soul, and I am sure to the very core of those who fought so hard for it.
This is my country and government; it is your country and government. I was born in the United States of America, but now I find myself living in the American Corporate Empire. Times are sad indeed.
