Judge dismisses cases against dispatcher

NEWTON FALLS -- The case against an emergency dispatcher charged with faking a police officer's resignation has been dismissed.
Visiting Judge Thomas W. Townley, of Niles Municipal Court, dismissed the misdemeanor charges against Amber Stiles-Bodnar in a judgment entry filed Wednesday.
Judge Townley characterized the case as a "poor practical joke that took on a life of its own."
He dismissed charges of making false allegations and falsification of a police document due to lack of evidence. The judge agreed with defense attorney Tom Hanculak of Cleveland, who filed a motion to dismiss the case.
Stiles-Bodnar, 32, of Cortland, was accused of typing on a blank previously signed report by Patrol Officer Brian R. Foor, "I'm an idiot, and therefore, I have resigned from the department."
Stiles-Bodnar maintained her innocence of faking the resignation last July.
