Bicentennial event includes time capsule

SALEM -- Despite rain and cold, about 75 people attended the official opening of the city's Bicentennial Celebration.
The ceremony was held Tuesday in front of the library before the scheduled removal of a time capsule buried 50 years ago in the library's lawn. The capsule will be opened at a later date.
George W.S. Hays said the bicentennial will include four weeks of activities in late June and July that may help guide the city's future.
Salem was founded in 1806, and Hays said library activities began in Columbiana County in 1814 in Salem.
The bicentennial will end in September with the burial of a time capsule for another 50 years at the library.
