TRACK AND FIELD Fitch boys, Boardman girls capture Mahoning crowns



The Spartans boys team was second while Poland was girls runner-up.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Fitch High boys team and the Boardman High girls were the team winners at Saturday's 94th Mahoning County track meet at Fitch Stadium.
For the boys, the Fitch team compiled 103 points, followed by Boardman's 81.
The other teams scoring points were: Mooney, 70; Struthers, 65; West Branch, 46; Canfield, 41; South Range, 34; Poland, 27, Western Reserve, 241/2; Ursuline, 12; The Rayen School, 9; Springfield, 61/2; and Lowellville, 4.
For the girls, Boardman led with 132 points, followed by Poland with 63.
The other teams scoring points were: Canfield, 61; Chaney, 46; Fitch, 421/2; Struthers, 36; West Branch, 28; Lowellville, 20; South Range, 19; Western Reserve, 18; Ursuline, 14; Jackson-Milton, 31/2; Campbell, 2; and Rayen, 1.
Boys
The Falcons' edge came in field events where Sam Cassano won the discus (161 feet 2 inches), Matt Holmes won the high jump (6-0) and Jim Berdream won the pole vault (10-0).
Fitch also won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 31.4 seconds. The runners were Jason Anderson, Adam Kagarise, Zack Entzl and Tim Koniowsky.
Boardman's Jake Lape won the 3200 (10.08.4) while Brandon Bader won the shot put with a toss of 53-91/2.
Struthers' Eric Anderson won both hurdles -- the 110 in 15.3 and the 300 in 40.5.
For the girls, Boardman's Lauren Agnew and Lauren Blase were individual winners. Agnew edged Blase in the 1600 while Blase returned the favor in the 3200.
Boardman's 4x200 relay team won with a time of 1:47.6. Team members were Breanne Remeo, Caroline Farina, Danielle Burin and Corey Carter.
Chaney's Latalia Jones finished ahead of Canfield's Audra Frimpong in the 100 and 200 dashes, but Frimpong was the winner in the long jump (17-111/2), ahead of Boardman's Samara Sutton.
Frimpong also was a member of Canfield's winning 4x100 relay team (51.1). The other runners were Gina Strauss, Taylor Amendolara and Rachel Fisher.
West Branch's Alyssa Bowman won both hurdles races -- the 100 in 15.6 and the 300 in 47.1. Lowellville's Rachel Mariotti was second in the 100 and third in the 300.
