Tips will help new homeowners on moving day
Dear Readers: Here are some hints to help make move-in day a little easier for new homeowners. One of the nicest things you can do as a seller is make sure the house is spick-and-span for the new owners. Here are some other kind gestures:
Leave a roll of toilet paper in the bathrooms and a roll of paper towels in the kitchen.
Place all extra keys, appliance warranties, codes and other information that go with the house together on the kitchen counter.
Consider leaving a list of names and numbers of trusted repairmen, landscapers, veterinarians and other professionals in the area.
If they have children, consider including the names of doctors, schools and baby sitters you recommend.
You could also leave details about the days and times of garbage and recycling pickups, neighborhood amenities and any other information you think would be helpful.
And it's a good idea to leave your name, phone number and forwarding address as well, in case the new owners come across items or mail that belongs to you. Heloise
Dear Heloise: Instead of throwing away old magazines, we cut the address labels off and give them to the local school. They use them for art projects such as collages. From Isabelle and Beatrice, via e-mail
How nice of you to offer this suggestion! You can also give the magazines to nursing homes, doctors' offices, libraries or recycling stations. Heloise
Dear Heloise: This is similar to unplugging your phone when it isn't working and then plugging it in again. Three months ago, I tried everything to get my TV satellite going, with no success. So, I just unplugged it and then plugged it in again. Voil & aacute;! I had TV again, just like the phone. Marilyn Murphy, South Dakota
Dear Heloise: I just finished reading your letter about new shoes and aching feet. Your idea about rolling your feet over a bottle or tennis ball is great. I have found that a frozen can gives great relief to my aching feet. I use it the same way as a bottle or tennis ball, but it adds a nice, cool sensation, especially after those long days on my feet. Kim Jones, Madison, S.D.
Dear Heloise: I hate how my dish towels always slide off the oven door handle. I used a clothespin to clip the sides of the folded dish towel together, and now they don't slide onto the floor. Beth Harris, Palmyra, Pa.
Dear Heloise: I am a dental hygienist, and I would like to make a suggestion to people who have an appointment to have their teeth cleaned.
Please brush your teeth, and don't go out and eat something spicy before coming to the dentist's office. Some of the stories I could tell you would certainly curl your toes! So, please be considerate and think about the hygienist! R.N. from Ohio
