YOUNGSTOWN -- A candlelight vigil honoring victims of crime will be at noon Friday in the Mahoning County Courthouse rotunda, 120 Market St.
Linda Cappelli, director of the Mahoning County prosecutor's victims-witness assistance program, said the vigil commemorates National Crime Victims' Rights Week and is sponsored by the prosecutor's office and Help Hotline Crisis Center.
Facility to accept tiresfor recycling May 6
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County residents may recycle two passenger tires for free between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 6 at RRI, a new tire recycling facility at 1165 Brittain St.
The event is in conjunction with Mahoning County Commissioners' Reuse and Recycling Division and Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling Program.
Individuals may drop off as many as 10 tires, with no charge for the first two tires and $1.50 for each additional tire. Rims and other debris will not be accepted.

Mill Creek Park roadsto close for walkathon
YOUNGSTOWN -- These roads in Mill Creek Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday for the Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency Walk-A-Thon: East Glacier Drive, Memorial Hill Drive, Robinson Hill Drive, Slippery Rock Bridge, East Park Drive, Valley Drive, Old Mill Drive and East Newport Drive.
Old Furnace Road and Canfield Road will remain open to traffic.
Liberty schools eventto display pupil talent
LIBERTY -- The Liberty School District will host its second annual "Showcase Our Schools Pasta Dinner" from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the high school.
The event will feature pupil instrumental and vocal music performances, and art displays.
Tickets are $6 each. Proceeds will go to the Liberty Educational Endowment Fund.
CEU class to be offeredfor social workers
WARREN -- SCOPE Inc. of Trumbull and Help Hotline Crisis Center of Mahoning County are sponsoring 3.4 Free CEU class for Licensed Social Workers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 5 at SCOPE Warren Senior Center, 220 W. Market St.
Senior citizens and the public are also invited to attend.
Atty. Elliot Legow will present the topics of elder law, Medicaid law updates and financial planning.
A soup lunch will be available at a cost of $2 per person.
For CEU credits, registration may be made by next Monday.

SWCD tree, plant sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District continues its spring tree and plant sale at its new district office this week.
Trees and plants that haven't been sold will be available at reduced prices from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Friday at 850 Industrial Road.
Species still available include catalpa, American plum, viburnum and Kentucky coffee tree.

Pupils' art at gallery
WARREN -- More than 300 works of art created by pupils in grades one to 12 in the city schools are on display at the Trumbull Art Gallery, 196-198 E. Market St., through Saturday.
Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
A public closing reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
