CONGRESS | 6th and 14th Districts



Four Republicans and three Democrats are seeking their party's nomination for the 6th Congressional District seat.
REPUBLICANS
CHUCK BLASDEL
Age: 35.
Home: 16428 Harvard Ave., East Liverpool.
Employment: President of Blasdel Financial Group and a state representative.
Education: An associate's degree from Ohio Valley Business College in East Liverpool.
Family: Wife, Lisa; one son.
Priority: To decrease burdensome regulations on small businesses so they may succeed and create jobs. Also to ensure national security, protect the sanctity of life and marriage.
DANNY HARMON
Age: 55.
Home: 57605 Whiskey Run Road, Quaker City.
Employment: Noble County Commissioner and a retired member of the Air Force.
Education: A master's degree in public administration from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla., a bachelor's degree in general business and an associate's degree in liberal arts from the University of the State of New York, associate's degree in survival and rescue operations, and in resource management from the Community College of the Air Force in Montgomery, Ala.
Family: Wife, Karen; four children.
Priority: To restore steel mills, improve infrastructure, advocate for a flat tax and the removal of all business taxes, and to stop illegal immigration. Also to protect all human life and safeguard traditional marriages, balance the federal budget and improve and maintain the Social Security system.
TIMOTHY E. GINTER
Age: 50.
Home: 4 Elysian Way, East Liverpool.
Employment: Pastor at The River Christian Fellowship in Empire.
Education: An associate's degree from the International School of Ministry, based in San Bernadino, Calif., working toward a master's degree from the Wagner Leadership Institute in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Family: Wife, Pamela; a daughter.
Priority: To establish a rural district committee in Congress to directly represent districts like the 6th that are under-represented in comparison to large metropolitan areas, and to establish at least three tax-free zones in the district to attract new businesses.
RICHARD D. STOBBS
Age: 59.
Home: 72311 Colerain-Mount Pleasant Road, Dillonvale.
Employment: Deputy recorder with the Franklin County recorder's office.
Education: A master's degree in administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio University in Athens.
Family: Wife, Jo Ann; four children.
Priority: To fight for veterans' rights, to support pro-life and the sanctity of marriage issues, and to lower taxes and limit government.
DEMOCRATS
BOB CARR
Age: 58.
Home: 439 Riverside Ave., Wellsville.
Employment: Owner of Vintage Train Carrs, a company that restores old railroad train cars.
Education: A bachelor's degree in political science and a bachelor's degree in communications from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, Calif.
Family: Wife, Karen.
Priority: To be a "district salesman" for the area and to serve as a "business matchmaker."
JOHN STEPHEN LUCHANSKY
Age: 52.
Home: 1976 Wendy Lane, Boardman.
Employment: Unemployed, formerly worked a variety of jobs.
Education: A bachelor's degree from Wilmington College.
Family: Single.
Priority: To get Congress to impeach President Bush.
CHARLIE WILSON [WRITE-IN]
Age: 53.
Home: 125 E. Lawn St., St. Clairsville.
Employment: President of Wilson Funeral and Furniture Co. and owner of Wilson Realty Co. in St. Clairsville, and a state senator.
Education: A bachelor's degree of general studies from Ohio University, and a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
Family: Four children.
Priority: Job creation by maximizing the funding of the district to boost economic development. A congressional staff member would be assigned to work on grants for economic development projects in the district.
There are three Democrats running in the 14th Congressional District race. The winner challenges U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette of Concord, the Republican incumbent who is running unopposed in his party's primary.
LEWIS KATZ
Age: 67.
Home: 29559 S. Woodland Road, Pepper Pike.
Employment: Professor of law at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Education: A law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and a bachelor's degree from Queens College in New York City.
Family: Wife, Jan; three children.
Priority: A national effort to make the country energy independent over the next 20 years.
DALE VIRGIL BLANCHARD
Age: 48.
Home: 32756 Lisa Lane, Solon.
Employment: A revenue auditor for the Illinois Department of Revenue's state corporate unit in Cleveland.
Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting from Cleveland State University.
Family: Wife, Jacquelyn; three children.
Priority: To propose and support legislation to create an environment to economic growth and to reform Social Security.
PALMER J. PETERSON
Age: 32.
Home: 475 Sycamore Lane, Apt. 101, Aurora.
Employment: A meteorologist with Weather Forecast in Cleveland.
Education: A bachelor's degree in meteorology from Ohio University.
Family: Single.
Priority: The complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of the year.
