Eagle award
Bryan Setz, son of Gary and Janice Setz of Boardman, recently received his Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting's highest honor, at a court of honor ceremony at Boardman United Methodist Church.
Bryan is a member of Troop 46, which meets at the church, and his Scoutmaster is Eric Grabman.
He has held positions of assistant patrol leader and patrol leader. He received the Arrow of Light, World Conservation Award and Order of the Arrow and 22 merit badges.
His Eagle Scout project involved renovating a classroom in the basement of St. Dominic Catholic Parish Center. He removed carpeting, tiles, books, shelves and other debris damaged by flooding, then replastered, repainted, cleaned and refurbished the classroom.
He is a senior at Boardman High School, where he serves on the Student Leadership team and is vice president of his senior class. He also is a member of National Honor Society and has served in various positions on student government. He is listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He was a four-year member of the football team and played viola in the school orchestra.
He is a member of St. Dominic Church, where he has served as an altar server. He is also a member of Italian, Industrial Arts and Interact clubs. He plans to attend the University of Cincinnati in the fall, where he will major in biomedical marketing.

English degree
Matthew Shears, son of Terry and Patricia Shears of Boardman, has completed his doctorate degree in English at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he was a three-year Schaeffer Fellow.
He received his bachelor's degree from Miami University and his master's degree from University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop. Shears has been published in numerous journals, most recently, Volt and Denver Quarterly. His work also is found at www.argotistonline.co.uk.
Currently, he is an English instructor at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash.
