More than 50 exhibitorsat weekend outdoor show
JEFFERSON -- The 2006 Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show will be held today and Sunday at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds.
Gates will open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are free. Parking is free.
More than 50 exhibitors will be at the show, many of them inside the Expo building, and will feature a variety of displays including race cars, recreational vehicles, boats, boat charters, hunting, fishing, cruises, tours, covered bridges, and more.
Also, a variety of seminars will be presented Saturday and Sunday (check show schedule at the event), with scheduled topics to include archery, steelhead fishing, Remote Control racing, U.S. Tennis Association tennis, biking, boating safety, motorbikes and more.
There will be race cars and drivers from several area speedways, including Ryan Newman's No. 12 Nextel Cup car, Sharon Speedway, Painesville Speedway and others.
The Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show is made possible by a partnership between representatives of Gazette Newspapers, Ashtabula County Chambers of Commerce and The Ashtabula County Fair. These groups recognized the need for a special event to showcase everything Ashtabula County offers in the area of outdoor recreation.

Scholarships availablefor conservation majors
POLAND -- The Lowellville Rod and Gun Club will be accepting applications for the first conservation scholarship program.
Two scholarships will be awarded for enrollment in an accredited college program in a conservation-related field of study. A $500 scholarship will be awarded, by the scholarship committee, to the top male and female applicant.
Applicants will need to provide academic information, personal information and will be required to prepare a typed original essay of why they have chosen to pursue an education in a field related to conservation.
Applications are available through June 2 and must be submitted by June 5. Applications are available at Bolt Construction, 10422 South Ave., Poland, or by e-mailing digitalgraphics@zoominternet.com and include "scholarship application" in the subject line.
The scholarships will be presented at the club's 70th anniversary dinner June 24.
Workshop to monitorLittle Beaver Creek
CALCUTTA -- A stream quality monitoring workshop of the Little Beaver Creek Scenic River will be held from 5-7 p.m. May 15 at Gaston's Mill on Echo Dell Road in Beaver Creek State Park.
The workshop is part of the Scenic Rivers Program of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas and Preserves.

Legion schedulesgun, knife, military show
LAKE MILTON -- The American Legion SAL Gun, Knife and Military Show will be held April 29-30 at the Legion hall, 16465 Milton Road.
Show times are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, with children under 12 admitted free.
