McDONALD -- McDonald High baseball pitcher Corey Vukovic scattered five hits, striking out 13 batters and walking four Saturday in leading the Blue Devils to a 3-2 victory over first-place Springfield.
At the plate, Vukovic had two hits, including a RBI double for the Blue Devils (5-4, 5-1 Inter-County League). Dave Dugan doubled for McDonald.
For Springfield (11-3, 6-1), John Houser had two hits and drove in a run.
Boardman 7, Stow 4
STOW -- Corey Susany led off the fifth inning with a home run and sparked Boardman to a five-run rally and the victory.
Susany also picked up the mound win in relief for the Spartans (11-4).
Joe Iacobucci had three hits including a home run while Anthony Porter added a pair with a double.
Boardman 10, Massillon 8
STOW -- Boardman scored twice in the top of the 10th inning then held off Massillon.
Dom Silvestri and Joe Iacobucci had two hits and drove in two runs for the Spartans (12-4). Both of Iacobucci's were doubles.
Troy Ellis had three hits for Massillon (10-6).
Poland 7, Ursuline 4
STRUTHERS -- Trent Vallinger's two-run double pushed across the go-ahead in the top of the sixth when Poland broke loose for five runs. The Bulldogs (10-3) added a single run in the seventh.
Jim Pasquine had two singles and three RBIs, Mark Turnbull had two singles and three RBIs, and Don Stanovack was 4-for-4 and scored once for the winners.
Matt Yarab had a triple and single while Todd Finn, a junior, had two doubles and three RBIs for Ursuline.
Ryan Satterlee and Joe Wielbruda had two singles apiece for the Irish.
Northwestern 4, Ursuline 3
STRUTHERS -- Al Yamboor's double in the top of the ninth drove in Luke Harbaugh with the winning run as Northwestern held off the Irish at Cene Park.
Yamboor's other two plate appearances were walks. Shane Spies had two singles and an RBI for Northwestern (8-6) of Wayne County.
Starting pitcher and winner Josh Akins gave up one hit in the ninth before being relieved.
Ed Rohan had two doubles and scored twice for Ursuline, which stranded 13 runners. Matt Yarab had a double and single for two RBIs and Shawn Roman singled three times for the Irish (10-4).
Hubbard 12-8, Chaney 1-2
HUBBARD -- Andy Wess tossed a five-inning three-hitter in the first game.
Frank Palestro's three hits drove in two runs.
Marc Kanetsky, Corey Hitt, Frank Rosile and Chris Lacivita doubled. Kanetsky, Rosile, Tom Jones and Eddie Palestro each had two hits.
In the second game, Eddie Palestro's two hits included three-run double in the fifth inning. Rosile doubled for the Eagles (9-7) while John Madeline tripled.
For Chaney, Dustin Guyer had a RBI single.
West Branch 9-20, Southeast 1-2
RAVENNA -- Tyler Newhart (4-0) scattered four hits with 11 strikeouts as he pitched a complete game for the Warriors in the first game of a doubleheader.
Steve McNeely and Shawn Linder each hit two singles for the Warriors.
In the second game, Evan Campbell went 4-for-4, with a double and home run and drove in four runs. The Warriors pounded out 20 hits and broke the game open with a 12-run fifth inning.
McNeely hit four singles and Willy Graham hit a double and single for the Warriors (11-5).
Keystone 9, South Range 5
NORTH LIMA -- The Raiders (4-9) went 2-3 in their trip to the Tennessee Spring Bash. In Thursday's finale, Joey Leson and Steve Bensinger each had two hits. Leson drove in two runs.
Other scores were: Wisconsin Waukesha 12, South Range 9; Padua Franciscan 8, South Range 2; South Range 7, Wisconsin Catholic Memorial 1; and South Range 10, Lorain Southview 6.
