7 educators to receive Golden Apple Award



YOUNGSTOWN -- Seven educators from across the region have been named recipients of this year's Golden Apple Award by the Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Erie.
The honorees are Catherine Gierchak of Holy Family School in Poland, Karen Joseph of St. Christine School in Youngstown, Pamela Pasquale of St. Charles School in Youngstown, Eileen Sellers of St. Joseph School in Canton, Cheryl Turner of St. Joseph School in Mantua, Marcella Watry of SS Philip and James School in Canal Fulton and Karen Wright of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown.
The program, funded by the Donahue Family Foundation of Pittsburgh, honors outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools.
The honor includes an unrestricted cash award of $5,000, a certificate, a Golden Apple paperweight and a Golden Apple lapel pin.
The recipients will be recognized at a May 11 dinner at the Youngstown Country Club, Liberty.
