ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
REAL PARTY GUY: Frankie Avalon will perform at an April 28 fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine at the Avalon Inn in Warren.
"Frankie Avalon is a wonderful performer and having him at an event is a real treat for our family. I have always said that political campaigns should be fun, and April 28 will be another fun night," DeWine said in a prepared statement.
Apparently those DeWines really know how to party. It's a shame the Avalon isn't called Daltrey Inn or Plant Inn.
Independent candidates: May 1, the day before the primary, is the filing deadline for independent candidates seeking to run in the November general election.
Comeback bid: Ex-Columbiana County Commissioner David E. Cranmer filed to run as an independent for his former seat. Cranmer, a Democrat, was elected commissioner in 1998 and lost in 2002 to then-county Recorder Gary Williams, a Republican. Williams and Democrat Daniel Bing are running unopposed in their party's May 2 primary.
