CHICAGO -- Javier Vazquez didn't allow a hit until Doug Mientkiewicz singled on a checked swing roller down the third-base line with one out in the seventh inning as Chicago handed Kansas City its 10th straight loss. Vazquez (1-1) allowed two hits in eight-plus innings, struck out seven and walked one. Bobby Jenks got two outs for his sixth save, finishing a three-hitter that gave Chicago nine wins in 10 games. Scott Elarton (0-4) gave up four runs -- three earned -- five hits and five walks in 41/3 innings. Juan Uribe homered for Chicago, which also had the benefit of a bases-loaded hit batter, a run-scoring wild pitch and a run-scoring passed ball. Kansas City managed one run and 11 hits in the three-game series.
Yankees 3, Blue Jays 1
TORONTO -- Alex Rodriguez homered in his third straight game and Mike Mussina (2-1) struck out a season-high seven in 71/3 innings. He allowed one run and seven hits, lowering his ERA to 2.67. Kyle Farnsworth got the last two outs of the eighth and Mariano Rivera, bouncing back from Saturday's loss in Minnesota, pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. Former Yankee Ted Lilly (1-1) gave up two runs, seven hits and five walks in five innings.
Red Sox 9, Devil Rays 1
BOSTON -- Curt Schilling (4-0) opened a season with four straight winning starts for the first time in his career. Backed by Boston's season-high, seven-run third, Schilling allowing one run and six hits in six innings, lowering his ERA from 1.64 to 1.61. He tied Jim Bunning for 15th on the strikeouts list at 2,855. Kevin Youkilis had a solo homer and two singles as Red Sox won for the 10th time in 13 games. Doug Waechter (0-1) gave up seven runs -- six earned -- five hits and three walks in 22/3 innings. Tampa Bay, which has lost eight straight at Fenway Park, made a season-high four errors.
Twins 12, Angels 10, 10 innings
MINNEAPOLIS -- Pinch-hitter Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run homer against former teammate J.C. Romero in the 10th inning. Romero (1-1) struck out Shannon Stewart to start the inning, but he walked Luis Castillo -- who stole second base without a throw and moved to third on Joe Mauer's groundout. Cuddyer then homered over the wall in right-center field.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 2, Mets 1
NEW YORK -- Tim Hudson took a shutout into the ninth inning and pitched a three-hitter, and Andruw Jones hit his fifth homer in four games to help Atlanta beat New York. Hudson (1-1) struck out six and walked one. He retired his first 15 batters before Ramon Castro's leadoff single in the sixth, and didn't allow a run until Jose Reyes doubled in the ninth and scored on Chris Woodward's single. Mets third baseman David Wright made three errors and hit a game-ending groundout with a runner on. Tom Glavine (2-1) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and four hits in eight innings against his former team, which won two of three in the series.
Reds 9, Marlins 8
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati tied it with three runs in the eighth, and Edwin Encarnacion hit a run-scoring double in the ninth off Todd Wellemeyer (0-1). Dontrelle Willis, trying to improve to 10-0 career in April, turned an 8-4 lead over to Florida's bullpen after the sixth inning. The Marlins are 0-5 in one-run games. Todd Coffey (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth.
Padres 13, Rockies 4
DENVER -- Ben Johnson had a career-high four RBIs and Vinny Castilla had four hits. San Diego had a season-high 19 hits and took two of three from the Rockies after being swept at home by Colorado from April 7-9. Adrian Gonzalez drove in three runs and had three hits, and Khalil Greene had two hits, two walks and two RBIs. Chan Ho Park (1-0) won for the first time since beating Arizona last Aug. 31. He allowed four runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in seven innings. Zach Day (1-2) gave up eight runs and a career-high 11 hits in 32/3 innings.
Phillies 7, Nationals 6, 10 innings
PHILADELPHIA -- Ryan Howard's RBI single in the 10th inning completed a Philadelphia rally. Bobby Abreu opened the 10th with a walk off Mike Stanton (0-2) and moved to second on Chase Utley's one-out walk. Howard then ripped a single to right to give the Phillies only their second home win in eight games. Ryan Franklin (1-1) worked a scoreless 10th for his first win in Philadelphia. Ryan Church homered for the second straight game and Jose Vidro went 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game winning streak. Howard, Abreu and David Bell all homered for the Phillies off starter Livan Hernandez.
Brewers 7, Astros 2
HOUSTON -- Andy Pettitte lost to the Brewers for the first time since 1996 despite allowing only two runs. Coming off a 5-1 loss at Arizona, Pettitte (1-3) struck out eight and walked one in seven innings, allowing seven hits. Houston has scored 12 runs in his four starts -- seven came in his lone victory, against Washington on April 9. Pettitte had won six straight starts against Milwaukee since a 7-5 loss for the New York Yankees on July 19, 1996. He dropped to 7-3 against the Brewers despite lowering his season ERA from 6.35 to 5.25. Chris Capuano (2-2) allowed two runs and five hits in 72/3 innings with eight strikeouts and two walks to help Milwaukee stop a three-game losing streak. He had been 0-2 in three career appearances at Minute Maid Park coming in. Houston's Morgan Ensberg homered in his fifth straight game, tying a team record, and raised his season total to seven.
