Leone, Raketa new coaches at Mineral Ridge



MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield school board Wednesday hired Dominic Leone as head football coach and Samuel J. Raketa as boys varsity basketball coach for the 2006-2007 school year.
Leone replaces Shawn Brown, who is returning to school for his master's degree, and Raketa succeeds Del Ruiter, who resigned to spend more time with his family.
Leone, 36, teaches physical education and health at Alden and Jefferson elementary schools in Warren.
He was a graduate assistant at West Virginia University, where he earned a master's degree, and was an assistant coach at Warren Harding High from 2000-04. Leone has also been an assistant at Rayen School (1994-95) and Brookfield (1996-99).
Racketa, 48, of Girard is a teacher at Mineral Ridge.
He was the Rams' head coach from 1994-96 and before that was an assistant at McDonald (1988-94). He also served as an aide at Liberty from 1996-97 and coached Girard's baseball program from 2001-06.
The board also re-hired Jerry Postlewait as girls basketball coach, Brooke Stull as girls junior varsity coach, Anthony Ferradino as boys junior varsity coach and Rich Owen as seventh grade boys basketball coach. Keith Schubert was hired as boys freshman coach and Racketa was hired as fifth and sixth grade boys basketball coach.
