YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond has been set at $1 million for Taurus L. Hearns, who is charged with two counts of murder. Municipal Judge Robert P. Milich set the bond Wednesday at Hearns' video arraignment. Hearns, 32, of East Liberty Street, Girard, is accused in the April 7 double homicide at an apartment at 840 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Sampson J. Williams III, 34, of Fairgreen and Clearmont avenues, was found shot to death on a couch at 11:51 p.m. The apartment resident, Ronnie R. Summers, 45, was shot in the chest and died later.
Not qualified for judge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christopher Sammarone, the youngest of three judicial candidates for 7th District Court of Appeals, has been deemed not qualified by Mahoning County Bar Association members. Incumbent Judge Mary DeGenaro and assistant County Prosecutor Timothy E. Franken were designated qualified. Bar association leaders, who released a statement Wednesday, said members considered candidates based on qualities of legal knowledge, professional experience, judicial temperament, integrity, diligence and professional responsibility. The bar association also found Judge Maureen A. Cronin to be qualified. Judge Cronin has no opponent for Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the May 2 primary election.

Youth job fair scheduled
YOUNGSTOWN -- The public is invited to the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association's second annual Mahoning Valley Youth Job Fair. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave. The job fair is designed to connect employers with job-seekers ages 17 to 25.
Fired official's appeal
YOUNGSTOWN -- Richard A. Malagisi, who was fired by Mahoning County commissioners as director of facilities management last September, wants a common pleas court judge to review the dismissal of his appeal to the State Personnel Board of Review. Malagisi, of Austintown, had filed that appeal in October, but the board dismissed it April 3. Malagisi's attorney, John B. Juhasz, filed notice of appeal Tuesday in common pleas court, writing that the personnel board's order is contrary to law. Commissioners had said they were displeased with Malagisi's job performance. Malagisi worked for the county for nearly 24 years.
Hatchet-threat arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- A hatchet was taken as evidence after police arrested Susan R. Davis at her West Evergreen Avenue home late Tuesday night. Davis, 44, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault and aggravated menacing. Bond was set at $20,000. She is accused of wielding a hatchet to threaten a man inside her home.
No contest in theft
YOUNGSTOWN -- Harold Clinkscale, 47, of Rachellen Avenue, Hubbard, pleaded no contest Wednesday in municipal court to theft and receiving stolen property. Judge Robert P. Milich found Clinkscale guilty and sentenced him to 180 days in jail, suspending all but 30. Clinkscale must also serve three years' community control, commonly called probation. Clinkscale was arrested just before 11 p.m. Tuesday after leather gloves and a black leather coat that had been hanging on the handlebars of a motorcycle inside FireLine, 300 Andrews Ave., were stolen. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop.
Antique tractor show
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Antique Tractor Club will have its daylong spring show beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Tractor Supply Co., 3800 Elm Road, across from Wal-Mart. About 80 antique tractors will be on display.
