Springfield district looks to post new sign

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield School District is looking to post a new sign outside the elementary school.
On Tuesday administrators said the existing sign has been in place since the school was built nearly 30 years ago and needs to be replaced. They said they would like to buy a lighted, digital sign that would allow them to change the messages more easily and quickly.
The school district has asked several groups that frequently advertise on the sign -- such as the athletic and band boosters and PTO -- to make donations to help cover the cost of the new structure. Anyone interested in contributing should call the high school principal's office at (330) 542-3626.
Also Tuesday, the Springfield Board of Education agreed to allow the school district to offer a summer physical education class.
Participating students are to pay $50 toward transportation along with entrance fees for planned activities. Nonresident students may participate at a cost of $100 plus activity entrance fees as space is available once the registration deadline for residents closes.
In other news, administrators announced bids submitted for a new bus will be opened at noon May 8.
