Rehearsals precede music camp



The band has marched in just about every major parade in the U.S.

WARREN -- The Warren Junior Military Band will hold the first of two weekend rehearsals leading up to its summer music camp in June.
The weekend rehearsal location is the Aristocrat Hall, 471 Francisca Ave., just off Belmont Avenue on Youngstown's upper North Side. Directions and maps are on the band's Web site at www.wjmb.org; or call (330) 308-1643 for directions.
Rehearsal dates are April 29 and 30 and May 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Summer music camp is June 9 to 17 at Badger Meadows Camp near Kinsman. A summer performance tour will follow the music camp.
Director Paul Brizzi will lead the WJMB concert band in a performance at 2 p.m. May 28 at the Aristocrat Hall. The band will also perform at noon June 16 at Courthouse Square in Warren, as part of the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County's summer concert series.
The band will also perform at the Performing Arts Center in Buhl Park, Sharon, on June 18 as part of that city's summer concert series. The Buhl Park performance is sponsored by UPMC Horizon.
Admission to all concerts is free.
Later in June the band will travel through Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Illinois to play in concerts, festivals, parades and field competitions before heading to Colorado in July to perform in festivals, concerts and parades.
About the band
Founded in 1927, the Warren Junior Military Band is composed of young musicians from Youngstown and Warren schools and colleges and young people from other cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
During its long history, the band has amassed regional, national and international honors and awards from all over the world including Gold Medal performances in each of the band's appearances at the World Music Competitions in the Netherlands. The band's performance tours have taken it throughout the United States, including Hawaii, and to Canada, Great Britain and Europe.
The band has marched in nearly every major parade in the country, including Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and the Orange Bowl Parade. The concert band has played in city squares from Warren to Rome, and in concert halls from Chautauqua, N.Y., to Zurich, Switzerland. It has played in the Courtyard of the Palace in Salzburg, Austria, and on the White House lawn.
How to join
Membership in Warren Junior Military Band is open to youths ages 12 to 21 by audition. Members may participate in the summer music camp or the summer band trip or both.
Auditions will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. April 29. Audition appointments are recommended by not required.
New members for the 2006 summer season will be accepted through June 10 if there are openings available. The band has a limited number of performance scholarships available for advanced players in trumpet, horn, trombone and saxophone.
