MLB ROUNDUP \ Tuesday's other games
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Blue Jays 10, Yankees 5
TORONTO -- If Randy Johnson is hurt, he's not telling. Johnson couldn't hold a four-run lead and was chased in the fourth inning of Toronto's victory. Johnson, 42, said he felt great in the warm-up and shook his head when asked if he was hurt. "I just didn't execute my pitches and I paid the price," Johnson said. "It's just one of those games where you take it on the chin." Troy Glaus homered twice and Alex Rios tied a career high with four RBIs for the Blue Jays. Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi hit back-to-back homers in the first for New York -- helping Johnson (2-2) to a 4-0 lead -- but the Big Unit allowed seven runs and nine hits in just 31/3 innings. Johnson lasted just five innings in his last start, raising some concerns about his health. "He's honest with us. Last time he was said he was tired," New York manager Joe Torre said. "Tonight he had no complaints. He's been around long enough. He's certainly not going to try to fool anybody especially if his health is an issue." Catcher Kelly Stinnett said Johnson might be going through a dead arm period. "He was dragging a little bit. His arm wasn't as high as I've seen in the past. His fastball didn't quite have the bite and the ball was staying flat in the zone," Stinnett said. "He throws a lot of innings and he's thrown a lot of innings already this year in spring training. Sometimes you go through a dead arm period. That's just part of pitching. You throw so much." Glaus went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored three runs for the Blue Jays, who spent the off-season remaking their roster in the hopes of finally competing with New York. Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield drew jeers in the seventh when he dropped a fly ball for error, allowing Bengie Molina to reach. Molina later scored on Shawn Chacon's wild pitch, giving Toronto a 10-5 lead.
Angels 8, Twins 2
MINNEAPOLIS -- Kelvim Escobar struck out 10 in 62/3 innings and Chone Figgins had a home run and two RBIs to lead Los Angeles. Escobar (2-1) struck out the side twice and scattered seven hits and Orlando Cabrera added three hits and two RBIs for the Angels, who had lost four of five coming in but continued their recent dominance at the Metrodome. Lew Ford had two hits and scored two runs for the Twins, who have lost six of their last seven home games to the Angels. Twins starter Carlos Silva (1-2) again had trouble getting his standout sinker to work. Long known for keeping the ball on the ground, Silva allowed 10 flyouts and two homers in his last start, a 6-5 victory over Oakland. The Angels had 12 hits, including Figgins' second homer of the season, and 12 flyouts in 82/3 innings on Tuesday, a sign that Silva's sinker still hasn't started sinking.
White Sox 4, Royals 1
CHICAGO -- Jon Garland led the White Sox to their eighth win in nine games and extended the Kansas City Royals' deep slump. Garland (2-1) allowed six hits in 61/3 innings, helping Chicago. Kansas City has lost nine in a row, its longest skid since its team-record 19-game losing streak late last year, and is a major league-worst 2-11 -- beating the White Sox on April 7 and 8. Jeremy Affeldt (0-2) was done in by his defense, allowing three runs -- all unearned -- and four hits in six innings.
Red Sox 7, Devil Rays 4
BOSTON -- Kevin Youkilis hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning and Manny Ramirez took another step out of his deep slump with three RBIs. Tampa Bay had tied the game in the top of the eighth on Russell Branyan's two-run double off Mike Timlin (2-0). Mike Lowell started the bottom half with a double, his sixth in seven games, off Ruddy Lugo (0-1) and pinch-hitter Trot Nixon walked. Adam Stern's attempted sacrifice bunt ended with Lowell forced out at third and Alex Gonzalez struck out. Then Youkilis, batting leadoff since Coco Crisp went on the disabled list April 11, doubled off the left-center field wall against Chad Orvella, scoring Nixon and Stern.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 7, Mets 1
NEW YORK -- Andruw Jones hit a pair of two-run homers, Kyle Davies pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game. Adam LaRoche also homered off Victor Zambrano and drove in three runs, helping the Braves bounce back from a 4-3 loss to Pedro Martinez in the series opener. Davies (1-1), who struck out six and walked one, shut down a Mets lineup that was missing three injured starters: center fielder Carlos Beltran, left fielder Cliff Floyd and rookie second baseman Anderson Hernandez. Booed all night by the crowd of 30,322, Zambrano (1-1) gave up seven runs -- all with two outs -- and seven hits in five innings.
Marlins 12, Reds 6
CINCINNATI -- Leadoff hitter Hanley Ramirez homered in his first two at-bats off Eric Milton (2-1) and drove in four runs. Florida stopped a three-game losing streak with its biggest offensive splurge of the season. The Marlins hit three homers off Milton -- Dan Uggla also had a solo shot -- and had seven doubles among their season-high 18 hits. Josh Johnson (1-1) stopped the Reds' comeback attempt by pitching three hitless innings for the Marlins (4-9).
Nationals 10, Phillies 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Ryan Zimmerman drove in three runs on a pair of doubles and Ryan Church hit a grand slam. Tony Armas Jr. (1-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in six effective innings and Daryle Ward homered, helping the Nationals win their third straight game after a 2-9 start. Pat Burrell hit a two-run shot for the Phillies, who lost for the sixth time in seven games at home this season. Cory Lidle (1-2) gave up four runs and nine hits in seven innings.
