Flynn pitches, bats Hubbard past Irish



Gabby Flynn won her seventh game and led the Eagles to their eighth victory.
VIENNA -- Sophomore Gabby Flynn had four singles and was the winning pitcher for the Hubbard High softball team, which upended Ursuline 10-4 at the Thunderplex.
Flynn (7-3) struck out five and walked four.
Also for the Eagles (8-3), Callie Oyler, Meagan Schultz, Jamie Bowers and Cathy Jugenheimer had two hits apiece.
Jessica Yarab and Ashley Siembieda each had two hits for Ursuline (8-7).
McDonald 7, Warren Harding 6
WARREN -- Kayla Puntel had three hits, including the game-winning double in the seventh inning, to lead McDonald, which scored three runs in the seventh to rally.
Lauren Walls added two hits, including her first homer of the season, and struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings for the Blue Devils (7-4).
For Harding, Brittany Miles had three hits and Morgan Dowell had two.
Chaney 26, Rayen 10
YOUNGSTOWN -- Monica Miller and Kayla Griffen each had two hits as the Cowboys (3-8, 3-1) sent 15 girls to the plate in the seventh inning, scoring 12 runs to break open a Steel Valley Conference game.
Everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit for Chaney, which collected 18 hits.
Miller finished with four hits, four RBIs and three runs.
Griffen had three hits, two RBIs and scored three times. Terra Koontz had three hits, four RBIs, and scored five times. Mary Whieland had four hits, three RBIs and scored twice. Her sister, Emily Whieland, had three hits, two RBIs and scored twice.
Sabrina Nacarato (1-0) scattered three hits to pick up the win. There were a total of 21 errors in the contest.
Canfield 1-10, Canton CC 2-1
CANFIELD -- The Cardinals (10-3) rebounded in the second game against the Crusaders (7-5) as freshman Monique Herberger (4-0) scattered three hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win.
Monique Irwin hit singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice.
Sarah Pelini hit a single, a double and drove in three runs and DiAndra Dibacco hit a single, double and scored two times.
The Crusaders got all their hits in the first inning when they scored their only run.
The Cardinals stranded 11 batters in the first game. Losing pitcher Colleen Courtney (5-3) worked a complete game and allowed eight hits, with four strikeouts.
Katie Hughes hit three singles and Laura Guyer two.
The Crusaders scored their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on two errors, a hit batter and a walk. Autumn Grove hit a two-out single for the deciding run.
Struthers 4, Girard 1
STRUTHERS -- Sara Salinas had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for Struthers.
Elyse Kunzer and Annie Grischow each added two hits for the Wildcats (6-3), while Ellen Becker (2-2) struck out eight to get the win.
Sarah Britt doubled and drove in a run for Girard.
